A longtime Joplin-area technology professional has been selected as the city's next information technology director.
Eric Parker, of Webb City, will begin his new position October 26, succeeding Mark Morris, who retired in September after 25 years of service.
Parker spent 26 years working in information technology at TAMKO. Earlier in his career, he held technology positions at NPC International and Leggett & Platt.
A graduate of Missouri Southern State University, Parker earned a bachelor's degree in computer science with a double major in mathematics and computer information systems.
His professional background includes cybersecurity, enterprise resource planning systems, and technology infrastructure management.
"This is a very important role, and I'm thrilled to be welcoming Eric to our team," City Manager Nick Edwards said.
As IT director, Parker will oversee technology systems supporting Joplin's 15 municipal departments and 600 employees.
His responsibilities include maintaining city technology infrastructure, protecting municipal data and coordinating technology initiatives with outside partners.
Parker becomes only the second IT director in Joplin city government history.
