TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly has officially proclaimed September 14–18, 2026, as Construction Suicide Prevention Week in Kansas, highlighting the importance of addressing mental health and suicide prevention within the construction industry.
The Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) Division of Industrial Safety and Health, alongside industry and labor groups, remains committed to saving lives by promoting workplace safety, mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
The proclamation emphasizes the importance of equipping employers, managers and workers with the knowledge and tools to recognize warning signs of suicide, build a culture of care and respond with compassion. Organizations such as the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) continue to support efforts to reduce risks and promote safer, healthier workplaces.
“Suicide prevention is workplace safety,” said Amber Shultz, Secretary of Labor. “By recognizing the challenges faced by construction workers and creating workplaces where people feel supported, we can work together to protect workers, strengthen communities and save lives.”
Governor Kelly encourages all Kansans to recognize Construction Suicide Prevention Week and support efforts to make Kansas workplaces safe, healthy and supportive for all workers.
