Procedural abortions begin again in southwest Missouri

Planned Parenthood has begun offering procedural abortions at its Springfield clinic, further expanding abortion access in southwest Missouri.

The clinic started providing medication abortions in late July and now offers both medication and in-clinic procedures by appointment.

Planned Parenthood says procedural abortions are available through 12 weeks of pregnancy.

The expansion follows a June court ruling that struck down several Missouri abortion restrictions as unconstitutional under the reproductive rights amendment voters approved in 2024.

The amendment protects abortion access until fetal viability, but another proposed constitutional amendment is expected before Missouri voters in November.

If approved, it would repeal those protections and again prohibit most abortions.
