One of the nation’s richest political donors is putting more than $1 million into Missouri’s latest battle over abortion.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has donated $1.25 million to the campaign opposing a November constitutional amendment that would allow Missouri to once again restrict abortion.

The money goes to opponents of Amendment 3, which asks Missouri voters to reverse abortion protections they approved in 2024.

If approved, the amendment would allow abortion to be prohibited in most cases, while providing exceptions for medical emergencies and fetal anomalies. It would also allow exceptions for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest during the first 12 weeks.

The measure also contains provisions dealing with gender-transition procedures and treatments for minors.

Bloomberg’s contribution comes as millions of dollars pour into the campaign ahead of Election Day.

The stakes are significant: Missouri voters legalized abortion through a constitutional amendment in November 2024. Two years later, they will decide whether to substantially roll back those protections.

Bloomberg also financially supported the 2024 campaign that established abortion rights in Missouri’s constitution.
