Man from Pittsburg shot early Sunday morning; Sheriff’s office looking for suspect

On Sunday, May 5 at approximately 0158 hours, Emergency Room staff at Ascension Via Christi reported they had a patient with a gunshot wound.

It was determined that the patient was the victim of a shooting on the roadway south of Meadowbrook Mall on the 1000 block of south 220th St.  The victim was identified as 34-year old Keith Mitchell of Pittsburg.

Preliminary investigation revealed the suspect of the shooting was known to the victim.  Mitchell is expected to survive his injuries.  The suspect has not yet been located.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office is currently attempting to locate 34-year-old Steven M. Taylor, Jr. of Pittsburg.  Taylor is a suspect tin the shooting.

He is described as Black male, 5’f”, 180 lbs., last seen driving a blue/gravy 2015 Jeep Compass with Kansas tag 269SCR.

The black glass of the vehicle is broken out.

The vehicle was last seen leaving the Meadowbrook Mall parking lot after the shooting westbound from Broadway St. on Centennial Drive.  The incident is still under investigation.
