Female inmate dies at Topeka Correctional Facility

TOPEKA, Kansas. – Topeka Correctional Facility (TCF) inmate Asa Hashanna Adams, 36, died Saturday, May 4, 2024.

She was found unresponsive in her living unit Saturday morning. Staff began life-saving measures immediately and continued after emergency medical services arrived. Adams was pronounced deceased by medical staff. The cause of death is pending the results of an independent autopsy.

Per protocol, when a resident dies in the custody of the KDOC, the death is under investigation by the KDOC and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

Adams was serving a life sentence for a conviction of first-degree murder committed in Sedgwick County, Kansas.

The Topeka Correctional Facility serves only adult females and has a capacity of 932 residents.
