Regional filmmakers being highlighted at 2nd Sunday Cinema in Joplin and Webb City

Who says Hollywood gets to have all the fun making movies? One local organization is bringing Hollywood’s movie magic to the 4-states area!

Great Wonders Productions is a local nonprofit dedicated to providing a platform to local film makers and hobbyists that are from the 4-states area. “There’s lots [sic] of art forms and this area has always celebrated art, you know, we have First Thursday Art Walk and the Cornell Arts and Entertainment Complex… but there has been a void for cinematic artists” Steve Head of Great Wonders Productions told Newstalk KZRG, “we wanted to give cinematic artists a little more of a focus.”

As a way of  providing that focus to local filmmakers Great Wonders Productions started 2nd Sunday Cinema which hosts screenings of films made by regional artists every second Sunday of the month.

This month’s screening will feature “Nelly Don – The Musical Movie” a true Kansas City story about a trailblazer who ignited a fashion revolution in the early 1900s to become a global sensation. Two bonus short films will be showcased during Sunday’s screening as well, Raising Spirits: The Big Muddy Dance Company, along with Assaman.

“This is an event. We want this to be something fun every month! ” Head noted.

2nd Sunday Cinema is hosting two screenings, one from 1pm – 4pm at the Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex in Joplin, Missouri and a second screening from 6pm – 9pm at Historic Route 66 Theater in Webb City, Missouri.

Tickets are $10 and can be bought at the door or online on their website.
