Springfield Police investigating apparent homicide

24-year-old suffers multiple gunshot wounds, dies at scene

Springfield, Mo. – On Sept. 1, 2023, at 12:42 a.m., the Springfield Police Department responded to 1632 W. Berkeley for a report that someone had been shot.

Officers arrived and found a man with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A separate 911 caller stated an involved party left the scene of the shooting driving a white SUV, which was in the roadway near the intersection of Sunset St. and Grant Ave.

Officers responded to that location and found the driver, Cole M. Marcinek, 24, from Springfield, with multiple gunshot wounds.  Marcinek died at the scene. Marcinek’s family has been notified.

The Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating the incident and have identified all involved parties. No arrests have been made at this time.
