Southwest Missouri towns to vote on recreational cannabis tax
What do you think?

Recreational cannabis for those 21 and older became legal in Missouri in early December of 2022. But the debate over the substance is far from over as now local towns and municipalities are heading to the polls to vote on whether they should impose their own additional sales tax on the drug.
On Tuesday, August 8th Alba, Duquesne, and Airport Drive will be voting on the sales tax issue. Polls in all three of these cities will be open from 6 am until 7 pm at their respective City Halls.
"It's going to be a low turnout election," says Jasper County Clerk Charlie Davis, "but we do want people to understand that if you live in one of these communities you do have an opportunity to vote."
Jasper County voters have already approved a county tax on the substance that would only apply to dispensaries in unincorporated areas. Under current projections every dispensary in a city or county will bring in anywhere from $100,000 to $150,000 in tax revenue a year. Medical marijuana would be exempt from this tax.
Jasper County Clerk Charlie Davis also reminded those interested in voting that they are required to show ID in order to cast their vote, "In Missouri you are required to show a state issued or government issued identification card. So we ask everyone to bring their drivers license...or you can bring your military ID or your passport."
