Animal Cruelty: Oklahoman arrested for stabbing dog with butter knife

Police in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, about 59 miles south of Oklahoma City, said in a Facebook message posted late last week they took Cody Davis into custody based on a warrant.

Davis was booked into the Garvin County Jail where he is being held on a $10,000.00 bond on a felony charge of Cruelty to Animals

On Sunday, June 18, 2023 officers responded to a call about the animal reportedly being stabbed with a butter knife.

Officers arrived and spoke to a man who claimed to have been walking with a puppy when Cody Davis, an off-duty Cemetery employee of the City of Pauls Valley, came outside, jumped his fence, stabbed the dog, jumped back over the fence, and ran back into his residence.

Officers loaded the puppy into a patrol vehicle and transported it to Williamsburg Small Animal Hospital in Pauls Valley where the knife was removed and further treatment was provided. Officers said that the injured puppy showed no signs of aggression with them when being handled or transported.

Officers spoke to Davis at his residence. Davis appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time. He told officers that the puppy was trying to fight his dogs through the fence and that he threw a butter knife at the dog.

With the situation defused at the time, Officers waited until Davis was not under the influence of alcohol before collecting a statement from him about the incident.

The Pauls Valley City Manager has been made aware of the incident in order to address any potential personnel issues as a result of this case.

As of late last week, a local veterinarian said the puppy is doing very well and is a very sweet natured dog.
