PSU Solo & Chamber Music Series to kick off Sept. 9

The Solo & Chamber Music Series returns to the Pittsburg State University campus again this fall for a full season of live concerts.

Tickets are on sale now for the season which will span six Friday evenings across the academic year at McCray Hall.

The season will open on Sept. 9 with an interesting and creative program by the string trio, Black Oak Ensemble, which performs regularly around the world.

On Oct. 14, the university’s Fisk Opus 106 organ will be brilliantly demonstrated by organist Joseph Adam, director of music at St. James Cathedral in Seattle who performs regularly with the Seattle Symphony.

The fall season will conclude on Nov. 11 with an innovative percussion performance by the Arx Duo, which has premiered performances on three continents and worked to expand the percussion chamber music repertoire.

On Jan. 20, the university will host Italian trombonist Peter Steiner, an extraordinary artist who has been hailed as “a new trombone star within his generation.”

On Feb. 17, the series will feature the award-winning Calidore String Quartet, praised by the New York Times for its “deep reserves of virtuosity and irrepressible dramatic instinct.”

The season will close on March 31 with a highly anticipated program of music by women composers, titled Web of Lace, featuring the Boston-based Tapestry Ensemble.

Each concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. For more detailed descriptions of each concert, visit www.pittstate.edu/music/solo-and-chamber-music-series.html
