Fugitive from Florida drowns on Current River

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a fugitive from justice drowned in a Missouri waterway over the weekend.

The Patrol says 22-year-old Sherron D. McCombs of Tampa, Fla. was swimming just after 3 p.m. Sunday on the Current River near Doniphan when he began to panic, submerged and did not surface.

McCombs, wanted in Florida in connection with two shootings, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 4 p.m.
