Joplin man arrested after allegedly shooting at Uber driver

A man from Joplin has been arrested for allegedly shooting at an Uber driver Saturday.

On May 14th, 2022, police received a 911 call from an Uber driver who told them he was just shot at near the intersection of 23rd and McCoy Avenue.

Joplin Police Officers responded to the area and made contact with the victim, who claimed that he went to the area to pick up a customer, but was approached by an intoxicated individual dressed in a black shirt and black pants.

Due to that individual acting erratically, the driver told police he left without giving him a ride. When he drove away, he was allegedly shot at multiple times.

Officers did locate a bullet hole in the rear door of his vehicle. The victim in this case was not injured. Officers also located spent bullet casings and also an identification card of an individual matching the description of the suspect.

Officers went to the suspect’s residence at an apartment in the 1800 block of west 24th Street and surrounded the building and made announcements for the him to exit.

The suspect exited the residence and was detained without incident. Officers say he was still wearing the same clothing described from the shooting and he was positively identified as the suspect. A handgun was also seized by officers during his arrest.

The suspect was identified as Daniel A. Colon, age 24, of Joplin.

Following his arrest, charges against Daniel Colon were forwarded to the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

A warrant for Unlawful Use of Weapons (Class B Felony) was filed with a bond set at $100,000 cash.
