Police chase ends with arrest of Joplin man

A police chase in Joplin yesterday morning ended with the arrest of a Joplin man.

Joplin Police Capt. Nick Jimenez told NewsTalk KZRG the man who fled from police was 44-year old Marty W. Rickey of Joplin.

The chase began at 10:42 a.m. when police attempted to stop a car at 20th and New Jersey. The driver refused to stop and proceeded to 32nd and Main where he turned southbound into the northbound lanes of traffic and struck a vehicle.

The chase ended near 32nd and Kentucky when the driver, later identified as Rickey,  attempted to run from the still moving vehicle.

As he attempted to flee his arm became stuck between the vehicle and a tree. The tree was taken down

Jimenez says the car Rickey was driving had been reported stolen. Rickey was treated for injuries and arrested for resisting arrest, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with a motor vehicle.
