UPDATE: Arrest connected to officer-involved shooting in Topeka

TOPEKA – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Topeka Police Department (TPD) arrested a man for his role in an officer-involved shooting that occurred April 20, in Topeka.

On Friday, May 3, just before noon, Terrell D. Hayes-Osby, 34, of Topeka, was arrested for the attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and unlawfully tampering with electronic monitoring equipment. Hayes-Osby was arrested as he was released from Stormont Vail Hospital where he was recovering from injuries sustained in the shooting.

The attempted capital murder charge was secured by the KBI who is investigating the officer-involved shooting near 16th St. and Tyler St., where Hayes-Osby fired a pistol multiple times toward TPD officers. The remaining felony charges were secured by TPD in their investigation into the theft at gunpoint of a pickup truck, occurring prior to the shooting at the gas station at 2740 SE California Ave.

Following the arrest, Hayes-Osby was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Formal charges are pending.

The investigation is ongoing.
