The art of brunch ……

The George A. Spiva Center for the Arts invites you to join them for their first Gallery Brunch, on Sunday, July 1 4.

From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., you can enjoy a unique and intimate dining experience, while surrounded by beautiful works of art. The gallery seats a limited number of people, so advance reservations are required. A complete breakfast and lunch buffet (deliciously catered by Golden Goodies) will also include Mimosas and a Bloody Mary bar.

According to Susan Adams, Spiva’s Director, “This is an event that enables us to open up the galleries on a date and time that we’re usually closed, and to offer a unique Sunday brunch experience.” Adams added that if this event is successful, Spiva may offer Sunday brunch on a regular basis.

This is also an opportunity for people see the two current shows, both of which close this month. “Darral Dishman: The Artist as Mentor” features work by Mr. Dishman and more than twenty of his students from what is now Missouri Southern State University, most of whom went on to careers in the arts. There are watercolors, oils, sculpture and textiles on display and for sale. This exhibit closes on Saturday, July 20.

“Family Affair: A Multi-Generational Exhibit” is comprised of work by three generations of the Perry family. This show consists of the photography of Bill Perry. Mr. Perry’s sister, Rebecca Perry, is presenting an engaging and whimsical selection of her sculpture. Ms. Perry’s daughter, Aston Stovern, is showing large sculpture and drawings. Ms. Stovern’s daughter, Rylee Munch, is showing photography, ceramics and sculpture. Selected works are available for purchase. This exhibit closes on July 27.
