Suspended sentence instead of jail in rape case
He was charged with first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy in the assault of an 18-year-old woman. Monday, 23-year-old Jesse O. Madison received a suspended sentence.
The incident happened in September of 2015 at Madison’s apartment in Webb City. The accuser says that Madison forcibly raped her, and after reporting the attack to the police submitted to a sexual assault examination. The rape kit which included fingernail clippings taken from the woman and swabs of her mouth and body cavities were, unfortunately, never sent to a lab for DNA testing.
While a motion on the part of the defense to dismiss the case was pending, Madison took the plea deal to a 7-year suspended sentence.
With the plea deal Madison could have been sentenced to 3 to 10 years in prison, which the prosecution argued for, but Circuit Judge Gayle Crane instead granted the suspended sentence.
