Answers to the missing Sarah Burton case are still unclear

After a week long investigation that included the FBI and Missouri State Highway Patrol diving teams, the Newton County Sheriff’s office is still left with questions in the case of Sarah Burton, who has been missing since Mid-July.

As the Joplin Police Department continued to follow leads and track information into the disappearance of Burton last week, a narcotics raid opened up a new window of hope.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office and Joplin Police Department executed the warrant at 1174 Crane Drive, just south of 32nd Street, outside of city limits. During that drug investigation something possibly bigger materialized.

“The investigation turned into an investigation into the disappearance of Sarah Burton,” said Joplin Police Captain Trevor Duncan after the raid, and for a number of days the Newton County Sheriff’s office and the FBI scoured the property for more evidence. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Dive Team had multiple divers in the pond on that property Friday afternoon searing for additional clues as well.

Today Newton County Sheriff Chris Jennings tells News Talk KZRG “currently we are waiting for test results from the samples taken by the FBI. What we learn there will determine our next step.”

Unfortunately, a time line isn’t clear at this point but Sheriff Jennings says they will remain diligent in their efforts to locate Sarah Burton.
