IRS to hold direct hiring event for over 300 positions for its Kansas City service center

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Internal Revenue Service will host a one-day hiring event to fill more than 300 seasonal Tax Examiner and Clerk positions for its Kansas City campus.

The event will take place on Thursday, Jan. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sheraton Overland Park Hotel at 6100 College Blvd, Overland Park, Kansas, 66211.

It will be open to the public, and qualified candidates may receive on-the-spot job offers. At the event, participants who are offered jobs will also be expected to complete several pre-employment steps. Candidates are expected  to complete a pre-qualification process prior to or at the event to begin the hiring process.

What is a direct hire event?

During the event, IRS hiring officials will make job offers on-the-spot to qualified attendees who applied to the announcement prior to the event. Qualified candidates who have not applied ahead of time will be expected to complete the application process before moving forward.

About the positions 

Clerks and Tax Examiners perform a variety of administrative tasks to help process tax returns at the Kansas City campus. Qualifications for these entry-level positions is one year of general experience or two years of post-secondary education, and for advanced entry-level roles, one year of specialized clerical experience or four years of post-secondary education.

These entry level positions do not require prior tax experience. The IRS will provide all training necessary for individuals to succeed in these positions. The hourly pay for these positions starts at $17.21 – $19.26. Seasonal employees usually work six to eight months during tax season and are released into non-paid status at the end of the period. They remain IRS employees and are called back at the beginning of the next tax season without the need to re-apply.
