Sen. Eric Schmitt: We can buy Greenland
Missouri’s U-S Senator Eric Schmitt says Americans should not take lightly the importance of Greenland — and the Panama Canal.
He serves on the Armed Forces Committee and says America would not invade Greenland…but
“We might buy Greenland. It’s a territory of Denmark. We could negotiate something with Denmark, but I think you’re already seeing an overture from the elected leaders, there’s in Greenland that they would like to work with the United States more.”
Senator Schmitt says Greenland is important to the U-S
“Greenland has significant importance not only for the competition in space, but also some Arctic sea lanes. I mean, it’s critical to our own national security, so whether it’s purchasing Greenland or having a bigger presence and working with the Greenlanders, as they might seek their own independence from Denmark, I think all that stuff’s what’s being talked about.”
Schmitt says there is more going on in the Panama Canal that threatens the U-S.
“China controls both ends of that canal. Now they have ports on either side. They’re surveilling our ships that go across, our navy ships. 78% of the commercial activity is U-S commercial activity that goes through that canal. It’s unacceptable that Communist China has that level of influence and control over the Panama canal. So I think this sort of Monroe doctrine, Western hemispheric risk, view is right.”
