School Board approves spending over $706,000 for new turf, track resurfacing
The Joplin School Board approved the installation of the new turf for Junge Stadium at its meeting Tuesday night.
It’s the first time the surface has been changed in 12 years.
R-8 Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Dr. Kerry Sachetta, says the new turf will help protect student athletes.
“Technology has changed over the years and we’re going to come back with a pad beneath the turf,” Dr. Sachetta says.
“That will help guarantee we can keep the G-Max level, which is a rating on the hardness and dispersion when a student athlete falls on the surface.”
The Board approved the installation of new turf, plus resurfacing of the track at Junge Field and new goal posts at a price tag of just over 706 thousand dollars.
The money will also pay for a groomer device to maintain the turf.
