Pittsburg fire claims one life; Second resident injured
At 6:07 a.m. this morning, the Pittsburg Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 125 W 21st Street. Upon arrival, the Pittsburg Police Department had already reached the scene and confirmed that two residents were involved: one individual had safely evacuated, while the second remained inside the residence.
Fire crews entered the structure and successfully rescued the remaining resident. Immediate CPR was administered by Pittsburg firefighters. Crawford County EMS was on-site and provided further patient care. One individual was transported to Mercy Hospital with injuries. The second resident succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Pittsburg Fire Department, Pittsburg Police Department, and the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office. Additional agencies that assisted at the scene include Kansas Gas Service, Evergy, and the American Red Cross.
