Local Literacy Non-Profit To Host Their Biggest Fundraiser Of The Year Tonight
Joplin NALA Read’s biggest fundraiser of the year to eliminate illiteracy across the four states is tonight at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Joplin. Baseball Bonanza, a free event, open to the public, kicks off at 6 o’clock. NALA will pitch words to teams in the baseball style spelling bee. In addition, you can bid on items in the silent auction, grab dinner at the concession stand, and then enjoy dessert at the bake sale.
NALA is a local non-profit that offers free tutoring to adults in the community who struggle to read, or are looking to earn their GED, and even teaches English as second language.
You may be surprised to know that more than 11,000 adults in Jasper and Newton County cannot read above a 5th grade reading level.
