One dead after shooting in Pittsburg, Kansas
On Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at approximately 10:54 PM, law enforcement officers from the Pittsburg Police Department, along with first responder units from the Pittsburg Fire Department and Crawford County EMS, were dispatched to 1116 S. Elm Street, Apartment C, in Pittsburg, in reference to a report of a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male had been shot inside the apartment and that the shooter had fled the scene. The shooting victim was transported to Mercy hospital and later died as a result of his injuries. The victim has been identified as 29–year–old Fedor Lee Warren Lomax, of Pittsburg.
Information developed early in this investigation led to the identity of the shooter as being 25-year-old Kevin J. Hukill. Investigation into the possible location of Mr. Hukill’s whereabouts led law enforcement to a residence in the 300 block of East Park Street in Pittsburg. Attempts to contact the occupants of the residence were unsuccessful. A search warrant was obtained and entry into the residence was made, and after a thorough search, Mr. Hukill was located in the attic. Successful negotiations by a Pittsburg Police negotiator led to Mr. Hukill surrendering and being taken into custody at 5:33 AM, Thursday morning.
Mr. Hukill was arrested for one count of murder in the 2nd degree, felony interference with law enforcement, felon in possession of a firearm and a Crawford County felony arrest warrant, for failing to appear on a previous drug charge. Mr. Hukill was transported to the Crawford County Jail, and he is currently being held without bond.
Mr. Hukill is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
