Officer involved shooting results in death

On 11-24-2024, at approximately 6:42 PM, Jasper County Deputies were dispatched to a disturbance in progress at a residence at 850 W. Fountain Road, Joplin. Upon arrival, an individual inside the residence, Michael Antwiler, 60, Joplin, stepped out onto the porch with a shotgun and fired at the deputy. The deputy returned fire, striking Antwiler.

The deputy provided first aid until the ambulance arrived. Antwiler was transported to the hospital and pronounced deceased at 8:24 PM.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was called to conduct the investigation into the incident.
Next of kin has been notified and an autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday.

The Deputy was not injured.
