Much of Springfield remains under precautionary boil order
Much of the City of Springfield remains under a boil order Sunday morning following a break in the city’s water lines Saturday morning.
According to Springfield City Utilities, a precautionary boil water advisory issued on November 16 remains in effect.
Water samples taken during a boil advisory require 18 hours for full results to be available.
A boil water advisory was precautionary for all customers who were impacted by the break, which is from Campbell to the east end of the service area and roughly Trafficway to the southern end of the service area.
Here are steps you can take during a Boil Water Advisory:
1. If commercially bottled water is not available, boil your tap water. To kill germs, bring water to a full rolling boil for 3 minutes. To avoid burns, allow boiled water to cool before you use it.
2. Boil your tap water even if you filter it. For example, still boil tap water if it has been through a home water filter or a pitcher that filters water.
3. Use commercially bottled water or boiled water for drinking and to prepare and cook food.
4. Please be mindful if you have an infant that is fed formula and use ready-to-use formula if possible.
5. Be careful not to swallow any water when bathing or showering.
6. Use caution when bathing babies and young children. Consider giving them a sponge bath to reduce the chance of them swallowing water.
7. Brush your teeth using boiled water or commercially bottled water. Do not use tap water that you have not boiled first.
8. If possible, use disposable plates, cups, and utensils during a boil water advisory.
