Neosho state representative Ben Baker on election results and Amendment 7
Neosho state representative Ben Baker won re-election for his final term.
What still needs to be done?
Baker told Newstalk KZRG
“So there’s a lot of things that need to be done. I think absolute priorities for the state of Missouri right now is still working on initiative petition reform. We saw the results of not getting that done, especially with amendment three passing in Missouri. I think that was definitely for me, the big thing that night that was negative.”
Amendment 7 passed in Missouri Tuesday stating that Missouri won’t allow rank choice voting and that ONLY U.S. citizens can vote in Missouri elections
Neosho state representative Ben Baker was part of the writing team for the law.
Baker said
“That was a big win. I filed that legislation, HJR 104 and SJR 78, and is now passed. It’s very clear now that this is not just a party issue, obviously with 68% of the vote or close to it passing, It’s a clear indication that most Missourians are in favor of saying that you have to be a U.S. citizen, and that only U.S. citizens should be able to vote in our elections.”
Baker also said:
“And then the ranked choice voting, it was very clear on the ballot. We don’t want to change our system of voting the way that they have been pushing forward with rank choice voting. People like the one vote per issue per candidate on the ballot way of voting that we’ve had in Missouri for a long time and they want to keep it that way? So I think it was a resounding win with Amendment 7. That was a huge victory, and I would say, one of my biggest accomplishments in the last 6 years”
