Seniors could soon save on Jasper County real estate taxes
A new law could save seniors money on real estate taxes on the home they own and live in.
According to Jasper County Collector Steven McIntosh:
“On October 1 of this year, the Jasper County Commission passed an ordinance saying let’s implement this effective in 2025. The current law requires a base year. The base year for us will be 2024. The base year is really the initial year where you freeze the real estate taxes on somebody who’s 62 or over, that’s on their homestead.”
Parts of the registration plan are still being worked on.
Complete details will be coming soon to the Jasper County Collectors website.
