Sen. Eric Schmitt wonders if escalating Middle Eastern conflict could result in full-scale war

Tensions in the Middle East are high after Iran unloaded nearly 200 ballistic missiles on Israel last week, much larger than the strike from earlier this year. 

Missouri U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt, a Republican, says it’s important for the U.S. to speak in one united voice…

“It’s possible. I think our presence in the gulf right now is the best deterrence from that actually happening, but we’ve seen, certainly an escalation now from Iran.”

Schmitt is concerned that the conflict in the Middle East could expand into a full-scale war. 

The Islamic republic claims the missile attack was a direct response for the assassination of Hezbollah’s leader.
