DOJ grants to help two cities enhance public safety
The U.S. Department of Justice is helping two local cities enhance public safety through its “Community Oriented Policing Services” or COPS Hiring Program.
The city of Columbus, Kansas, is receiving $125,000 so that they can hire a a school resource officer (SRO) at their Highland Education Center. This will be the cities first ever SRO.
The city of Carterville, Missouri, received a $118,633 grant for public safety.
The DOJ says they’ve invested over $14 billion in community policing since Congress established the COPS office in 1994.
