Transition to Mercy Hospital Pittsburg complete
PITTSBURG, Kan. — The transition from Via Christi to Mercy Hospital Pittsburg is complete.
Several speakers associated with the move to the stage to share some words before a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place in front of the hospital to celebrate the momentous occasion.
The move is viewed as a major upgrade, as Mercy brings its extensive resources and expertise, being one of the largest health systems in the U.S., with over 50 hospitals and a broad network of care providers in the region.
Mercy Hospital Pittsburg, which officially joined on September 1, is the third in Southeast Kansas, with Mercy Hospital Columbus and Mercy Hospital Galena.
“So, first of all, they reached out to us,” Mercy President and CEO Steve Mackin said. “There was a need and they were looking for a long-term, sustainable partner to come into this community. No. 2, it’s an incredible community. There’s a great physician backdrop here. There’s a great history of service in the community, and it’s also a natural progression for Mercy.”
