Joplin man killed in trash truck crash

A man from Joplin was killed during a trash truck accident Wednesday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says it happened at 1 pm, on Route H, nine miles west of Jasper.

56-year-old Kim L. Melvin was behind the wheel of the trash truck when it partially went off the road, he tried to over-correct, went off the other side of the road and then overturned.

Melvin was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, 65-year-old Darrall W. Taylor, of Webb City, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Joplin hospital.
