Joplin man arrested for assault after a stabbing Tuesday night

A man from Joplin has been arrested after an altercation Tuesday night.

Joplin Police say at 10:58 pm, they responded to the Salvation Army parking for a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.

Upon arrival, officers found there was no vehicle crash but a stabbing had taken place.

Through further investigation, it was found that the suspect, 18-year-old Deandre T. Fazio was involved in a disturbance with his girlfriend at this location.

Family members were contacted to retrieve a child there at the scene.

Shortly after arriving, the victim was stabbed in the abdomen with a knife by Fazio.

The victim fled the scene on foot and flagged down a nearby motorist to get a ride to the hospital for treatment. He is in stable condition at this time.

Following the stabbing, Fazio jumped on the hood and windshield of his girlfriend’s vehicle causing extensive damage.

Fazio was detained on scene and arrested on charges of Assault in the 1st Degree, Armed Criminal Action, Property Damage in the 1st Degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 1st Degree. These charges are being forwarded to the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.

Fazio remains in custody at the Joplin City Jail.

Detectives with the Joplin Police Department are currently investigating this incident, and further details may be released if more information becomes available.
