Missouri Supreme Court hears Amendment 3 arguments

The Missouri Supreme Court heard arguments this morning on whether a proposed constitutional amendment to restore many abortions should be placed back on the November ballot.

Around 50 anti-abortion activists held signs and some quietly chanted the Rosary as attorneys from both sides of the abortion debate argued their cases before the High Court.

Attorneys representing the activists and two state lawmakers said that Amendment 3 should stay off the ballot because it has more than one subject and it does not say what laws would be repealed if voters approve the measure.

An attorney representing the sponsors of Amendment 3 said the will of 254-thousand registered voters wanting a vote on restoring most abortions is at stake.

The State Supreme Court is expected to rule on the case before today’s 5 p.m. deadline to remove initiatives from the November ballot.
