Oklahoma slashes its state grocery tax to zero

“It’s a great day to be an Oklahoman,” declared Governor Kevin Stitt.

The state’s 4.5% tax on groceries is now 0%.

“Every Oklahoman will keep more money in their pocket— and feel relief on their grocery bill,” added Stitt.

House Bill 1955, which was signed into law in February, will save the average Oklahoma family around $650-$700 per year, according to officials.

House Speaker Charles McCall says, “Inflation is higher than at almost any other point in our nation’s history, and Oklahomans are feeling that the most through the price of their groceries. I am proud of the House for leading this effort to cut the grocery tax, and thankful that Oklahomans are close to receiving the relief they so desperately need.”

The rule has some exceptions, which KOCO 5 explains very well in their article here.
