Eldorado Springs man arrested for Nevada church fire

Keith Caylor charged with arson, property damage and burglary

A man from Eldorado Springs, Missouri has been charged with three felonies in connection with a fire that destroyed the First Christian Church in Nevada Saturday night.

58-year-old Keith Caylor is charged with Felony Arson and Felony Property Damage, both in the first degree, and felony burglary in the second degree

According to a probable cause statement, Nevada Police were sent to Austin and Cedar Streets Saturday night after a 911 caller said people were trying to kill him. That call disconnected but, when the number was called back, it went to voicemail at the First Christian Church.

Upon arriving at the church, officers found two fires inside the building.

Officers then located a male outside the church who was identified as Keith Caylor. He told officers someone was trying to burn him alive and he broke into the church to use the phone.

The Nevada Fire Department fought to extinguish the First Christian Church for approximately four hours.

The building was a total loss.

An investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives  investigation deemed that the fire was an incendiary fire (arson).

Caylor was transported to the hospital by Nevada Police suffering from smoke inhalation.

He will be held without bond following his medical release.
