First day of school rapidly approaching for area

The start of the school year is here in the Joplin area, with a handful of schools starting this week before the rest of Southwest Missouri starts school next week.

Getting underway on Wednesday, New Heights Christian Academy secondary principal Daniel Durst told NewsTalk KZRG he and the rest of the faculty are excited to get the new school year underway.

20240813 123434“I stand right by the front door so I get to see everybody coming in and out,” Durst said to NewsTalk KZRG. “It’s just getting to talk to those kids about how their summers went and what they’re excited about.”

New Heights Christian Academy welcomes students back on Wednesday, while McAuley Catholic begins on Thursday.

Next week, Webb City, Carl Junction, Carthage, McDonald County and Thomas Jefferson begin classes on Monday, while Joplin and Seneca welcome back students on Tuesday with Neosho and Nevada starting up in a week on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

In Kansas, Frontenac, Galena and Girard get started tomorrow, while Pittsburg and St. Mary’s Colgan get school underway on Monday. Southeast welcomes back students on Aug. 23.

In Oklahoma, Miami starts school on Wednesday and Affton starts up on Monday, while Fairland begins on Aug. 20.
