Carthage murder suspect’s mom facing obstruction charges
The mother of a Carthage murder suspect has been arrested in connection to the killing of her daughter-in-law.
46-year-old Heather McJunkins was taken into custody on a warrant out of Miami County, Kansas, for obstructing a criminal investigation.
She is alleged to have met with her son, 23-year-old Gavino McJunkins-Macias, hours after he reportedly killed his wife, 24-year-old Kenia Lopez, in June.
Gavino allegedly murdered Kenia while on a camping trip near Louisburg, Kansas, then drove a camper with her body in it back to Carthage. He then left it for three and a half hours while he met with family without first notifying authorities.
Gavino faces the second-degree murder charges in Miami County, Kansas, as the investigation continues.
