Governor grateful for heavy rain following two drought-stricken years
Governor Mike Parson is expressing an attitude of gratitude for the heavy rainfall that has drenched Missouri recently.
In addition to the remnants of Hurricane Beryl, Missouri has had an especially rainy spring.
Parson says he might not be ready to lift the state’s drought alert which is in effect until September 1.
Governor Parson said: “We’ve been very fortunate this year. We’re still getting rain in July. It’s very unusual for our state, but I think if you look at the weather map, you’re probably looking at the next 10 or 15 days of nothing to speak of as far as major storms or anything coming through or rainfall. So, you know, it doesn’t take Missouri very long to be in a drought.”
According to the National Weather Service, this has been the wettest July on record for Columbia, having received over ten inches of rain since July 1.
