For the first time in several years, a sweeping military package has been signed into law in Missouri.
Governor Mike Parson has signed a bill that will require two Missouri agencies to develop a plan to fight veteran suicides.
It will relax custody and visitation agreements for parents who are preparing for a deployment.
Washington Senator Ben Brown, the bill sponsor, also included provisions that are designed to make it easier for disabled veterans to get a handicap placard for their vehicle.
“I’ve never been more proud to carry a piece of legislation as I have with this one,” says Brown. “This is a bill that actually affects people’s daily lives. It’s actually making a difference.”
Another piece will allow a full state tax deduction for military and National Guard enlistment and reenlistment bonuses.
