Work on U.S. 400 passing lanes begins soon in Cherokee County

The week of July 22, the Kansas Department of Transportation expects to begin a project that will add passing lanes to both sides of U.S. 400 in Cherokee County. The project area starts 4 miles east of K-7 at Cherokee and continues east for 1.6 miles.

Traffic will be carried through the project with lane shifts as needed. During later phases, a pilot car operation will intermittently control one-lane traffic in the work zone, with delays of 15 minutes or less expected during daylight hours. The road work should be completed by the summer of 2025, weather permitting.

KDOT awarded the $7.2 million construction contract to Bettis Asphalt & Construction Inc., Topeka. Check KDOT’s updated traveler information website, www.kandrive.gov, for more highway condition and construction details.
