Repairs underway at Joplin Senior Center following wind damage
High winds over the weekend resulted to damage to the exterior of the new Senior Citizens Center at 2616 Picher in Joplin.
Stephanie Denham, Nutrition Program Director at the Senior Center, says the repair process has already started.
“The building is owned by the City of Joplin so they will be in contact with the contractor R.E. Smith [Construction] to get in touch with the sub-contractors to get the building repaired as quick as possible,” Denham says.
“We have anywhere from 85 to 100 people come through here everyday,” Denham adds. “That’s for the congregate meal cities and activities such as bingo, card playing, pool and things like that.”
Denham says the Center will be closed through Wednesday but should open again Thursday.
She says seniors can go to other centers in Carl Junction, Webb City, Carthage or Neosho during times when the Joplin center is unavailable.
