Death investigation underway after body found in Spring River in Carthage

A death investigation is underway in Carthage.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office says Tuesday afternoon they responded to the area of I-49 under the Spring River bridge, just north of Carthage, in reference to a deceased person in the river.

A truck driver had called and said while driving over the bridge, he noticed the individual in the water.
The deceased subject was recovered from the river and has been identified.

An autopsy has been scheduled. Initial investigation indicates that the man may have jumped off the bridge.

The name is not being released at this time as the investigation is ongoing. The investigation is being conducted along with the Carthage Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Next of kin has been notified.
