NEO offers guaranteed admission without ACT for high school grads
MIAMI, Okla. — Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College will no longer require students who seek admission to the college to submit ACT/SAT scores.
The ACT/SAT requirement remains in effect for concurrent students based on Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education policy.
During the COVID pandemic, the OSRHE made the ACT/SAT requirement optional for colleges, providing alternative options to assess an incoming student’s academic performance, such as accumulative GPA. The OSRHE later ended the temporary policy for most colleges once testing returned. Some institutions were allowed to continue piloting the options, which were adopted and went into effect state-wide earlier this year.
NEO proposed a new admissions policy to the OSRHE no longer requiring an ACT/SAT score. It was approved on March 8, 2024, and will be implemented for the fall 2024 semester.
“At NEO we are committed to providing an accessible environment for all students, and I believe that removing the ACT requirement alleviates a barrier for some,” said NEO Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Amy Ishmael.
To enroll at NEO, students must first apply, and then submit a seven-semester high school transcript or a copy of a high school equivalency certificate and immunization records. The official transcript must include graduation date and be submitted from the high school to the NEO Admissions and Registrar’s Office. Students are required to participate in entry-level assessment and placement.
Nearly all NEO applicants qualify for scholarships or financial aid, including Pell grants, student loans, work-study, scholarships, and state benefits. Oklahoma’s Promise recipients receive a free dorm room at NEO.
