Update: Carthage woman found dead, 23-year-old man arrested

On Thursday, June 14, around 11:35 hours, the Carthage Police Department responded to a 911 call in reference to a deceased person in a camper trailer in the 600 block of North Main Street.

The person was identified as 24-year-old Kenia Lopez of Carthage. She was deceased from an apparent homicide.

A male subject on scene, Gavino McJunkins-Macias, 23, of Carthage, Mo., was detained for questioning.

McJunkins-Macias was subsequently arrested for Abandonment of a Corpse.

This is still an active investigation in conjunction with the Miami County Kansas Sheriff’s Office. The incident originated in Miami County, Kansas and concluded in Carthage.

Charges for Murder 2nd degree are also pending for McJunkins through Miami County.

McJunkins is currently in custody in the Jasper County Jail.
