Joplin – new attractions bring in new tourist and their dollars
Joplin is discussing putting in a new Dover Recreation Area and a developer is putting in a $375 million dollar multi use outdoor and indoor sports complex center along with retail locations, a hotel and residential buildings.
President and CEO of the Joplin Chamber of Commerce, Travis Stevens told Newstalk KZRG not only do residents enjoy the attractions:
“But it’s also a way to attract visitors to come and spend their dollars here – spend the night, be here for the weekends. Those are good dollars because they come in for the weekend. They eat at our restaurants. They spend the night at the hotels. They leave their money. Then they go away. That leaves money behind to pay for police and fire plus infrastructure. We love tourist dollars, Anything we can do to get more of those, it’s always a good thing.”
