Smith demands the U.S. Chamber of Commerce explain donation from ‘left-wing’ group

Southeast Missouri congressman Jason Smith is demanding answers from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce over a 12-million-dollar donation it received from the Tides Foundation. 

The non-profit group is dedicated to advancing social justice, according to a statement on its website. 

Smith, a Republican and chair of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee, says the Tides Foundation is a left-wing activist group that partners with anti-business groups that “seem to directly contradict” the U.S. Chamber’s mission statement. 

He sent a letter to the Chamber’s president, demanding to know why they accepted the donation, what the money will be used for, and whether the U.S. Chamber shares the same “vision” as the Tides Foundation.
