Missouri State Capitol Dome, Law Enforcement Memorial to shine blue this weekend

Missouri’s State Capitol Dome and the state’s Law Enforcement Memorial will shine blue as if sunset Friday night until sunrise on Saturday

It will be in honor of law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty in Missouri.

There will also be a candlelight vigil Friday night to honor those officers including three who died in 2023.

Those officers are Kansas City Police officer James Muhlbauer and his K-9 Champ who were killed after a speeding driver ran a red light in the city.

Also Sgt. Mason Griffith, an officer from Hermann, Missouri was shot and killed while attempting to take a man in custody in 2023.  Another officer was wounded.

Kelly Rolando was one of two people killed in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 54 in October 2023. Rolando, who was a Department of Corrections officer, was returning to the Northeast Correctional Center after an assignment in Columbia, a news release said.

Another corrections officer, Jason Pulliam who died in 2021 as a result of contracting COVID-19 at work, will also be honored.

The vigil will start at 8 p.m. Friday at the Law Enforcement Memorial at the Capitol. The service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the same location. Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe and Attorney General Andrew Bailey are expected to attend.
