UnitedHealth victim of major cyberattack
A UnitedHealth subsidiary was the victim of a major cyberattack recently.
The company had to pay a hefty ransom for the cybercriminals responsible for the February attack, to protect sensitive patient data.
Despite that, personal data was still compromised.
According to preliminary reports, files containing protected health information were affected.
It’s unknown how many people, including Missourians, were affected, but a UnitedHealth report addressing the incident says it could cover a “substantial proportion of people in America.”
The company is monitoring the dark web to determine if sensitive data has been published.
