Fatal apartment fire claims one life in Chanute Kansas
A fatal apartment fire in Chanute, Kansas, has claimed one life and injured several others.
At 1:22 a.m., both the Chanute Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to the Cornerstone Apartments at 1610 W. 4th Street for a structure fire.
Upon arrival, the south half of the 24-unit, three-story apartment building was fully engulfed in flames.
Chanute Police officers started evacuating the apartment building. Chanute Fire Department immediately requested assistance from Parsons, Iola and Thayer Fire departments.
The Chanute Fire Department, ATF, and Kansas Fire Marshal’s office are investigating the origin of the fire.
Red Cross has opened an Emergency Center at Central Park Pavilion, 101 S. Forest, Chanute, KS to help those in need of assistance.
